Smith cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 first-round victory over lucky loser Michael Hui at the Edwardsville Futures in Illinois. The four-time All-American now faces sixth-seeded Erik Crepaldi of Italy.
During tournament qualifying over the weekend, the Edwardsville Intelligencer published this story

Meanwhile in Slovakia, Conkic also got through his first round in straight sets at the Tatry Open, beating Marko Danis 6-4, 6-4. Conkic, a native of Serbia, has played in Slovakia the last two weeks. He plays top-seeded Kamil Capkovic, ranked 400th, later today.
