ON TOUR: Sandgren Advances on First Day at Harlingen Futures

Former Vol Tennys Sandgren won his first-round match Tuesday to advance to the round of 16 at the Harlingen Futures in Texas, a $15,000 event.

Sandgren defeated Shane Vinsant, a Texas A&M signee, 6-1, 6-7 (4), 7-5 at the Harlingen Country Club. He now faces top-seeded Peter Polansky of Canada, who won last week's Futures tournament handedly in Brownsville, Texas.

In doubles, Sandgren and Rhyne Williams upped their winning streak to five matches, easily beating wild cards Harrison Keyser and Jone Wiegand 6-2, 6-2.

Former All-American Ben Rogers was also in his doubles action of the year. He and fellow American Amrit Narasimhan upset third-seeded Vahid Mirzadeh and Joshua Zavala 6-3, 3-6 [10-6].

All four doubles quarterfinals will be played today, and Rhyne Williams will play his opening singles match against Luka Gregorc.
