Former Vol John-Patrick Smith and recently graduated Baylor standout John Peers won their first career doubles titles at the Challenger level Saturday.
Smith and Peers never faced a break point as they cruised to a quick 6-2, 6-4 victory over big-serving Vishnu Vardhan and Divij Sharan in the finals of the Burnie International in Burnie, Australia.
The collegiate All-American pair split $3,100 in prize money and each received 80 tour points. With the points, Smith will move up from No. 585 in the world to the top 400 when new rankings are released Monday.
Smith and Peers did not have any time to enjoy their win. They had to travel immediately to the next stop: the Caloundra International in Caloundra, Australia. Both made the main draw cut in singles of the $50,000 Challenger event.
