Forty-eight minutes. Nine aces.
That's all it took for former Vol John-Patrick Smith and Baylor standout John Peers to book a trip to their second-consecutive Challenger final Friday in Australia. The collegiate pair dispatched the Australian pair of James Lemke and Dane Propoggia 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals of the Caloundra International.
Smith and Peers have now won seven consecutive matches since teaming up to win the Burnie International last week, the first Challenger-level title for either player. They have already picked up 128 doubles points during that time, plus $4,900 in prize money. Smith moved up 229 spots in the doubles rankings to No. 359 in the world last week and now stands to crack the top 300. Peers is No. 264.
Smith and Peers have the day off Saturday when the other semifinal match is played.
Smith is now 30-12 in his professional doubles career with four titles.
