Former Vols Rhyne Williams and Tennys Sandgren teamed up to win their third professional title doubles together Sunday at the Brownsville Futures, a $15,000 event in Texas.
Williams and Sandgren won all four of their matches in straight sets on their way to the title, their second at the $15,000 level. They beat second-seeded Ruben Gonzales and Chris Kwon 7-6 (4), 6-0 in the title match.
The victory will bump Williams into the ATP top 500 in doubles for the first time in his career when the points are added next Monday. Sandgren will crack the top 600.
Williams also reached the semifinals of the singles draw.
The Vol duo are scheduled to play the Harlingen (Texas) Futures .
