Tennessee's Garrick Porteous improved six strokes Saturday and jumped 14 places in the standings through two rounds of the Jones Cup Invitational in Sea Island, Ga.
Porteous began on the 10th hole and couldn't have gotten off to a much better start en route to his 2-over-par 74. After opening the tournament Friday with an 80, he birdied four of his first six holes Saturday and finished the day with five birdies at the Ocean Forest Golf Club.
The Vols senior captain is at 10-over 154 for the tournament and tied for 37th place in the 90-player field heading into Sunday's final round.
The Jones Cup brings together many of the finest amateurs from the United State and abroad for the three-day competition.
