Tennessee's Garrick Porteous is middle of the pack after Day 1 the Jones Cup Invitational in Sea Island, Ga.
Porteous opened the prestigious amateur tournament by shooting 40 on both nines for a first round of 8-over-par 80 at Ocean Pines Golf Club. The Vols senior captain is tied for 51st place in the 90-player field. First-round scores can be found at Golfstat.com.
The Jones Cup brings together many of the finest amateurs from the United States and abroad for the three-day competition. Past participants include current PGA Tour stars Luke Donald, Rickie Fowler, Lucas Glover, Dustin Johnson, Chris Kirk, Jeff Overton, Webb Simpson, Brandt Snedeker, Bubba Watson and Gary Woodland.
