ISTANBUL, Turkey -- A day after Justin Gatlin struck gold in the 60m dash, another former Vol tasted victory at the IAAF Indoor Track & Field Championships. It was Aries Merritt's turn to be world champion on Sunday, as he triumphed in the men's 60-meter hurdles at Atakoy Athletics Arena.
Merritt navigated the obstacles in 7.44 seconds to upset 2004 Olympic gold medalist Xiang Liu of China. Liu took the silver at 7.49.
Two Tennessee products claimed bronze medals in their events. Former Lady Vol Tianna Madison raced to third-place honors in the women's 60m dash in 7.09 seconds. Another UT woman, Erica Moore, collected bronze in the women's 800 meters in a personal-best 1:59.97.
Former Lady Vol Jackie Areson ran in the 3000-meter final, checking in 11th with a season best of 9:12.50.
