Former Vol Rhyne Williams won the highest ranked match of his professional career Tuesday evening to advance to the final round of qualifying at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Calif.
Williams was off the court in less than 80 minutes with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over world No. 109 Marsel Ilhan of Turkey.
The former Vol and Knoxville native faces No. 123 Jurgen Zopp of Estonia in today's match, with the winner advancing to the main draw. The qualifier also receives 16 ATP tour points, which would bump Williams into the top 400 for the first time.
Williams and Zopp are the third match on court 6.
