ON TOUR: Smith Starts Qualies; Main Draw Released at Winnetka

Former Vol John-Patrick Smith advanced to the final round of qualifying Sunday at the Winnetka Challenger in Illinois.

Smith, the highest seeded player in qualifying, got a bye in the first round and then broke Daniel King-Turner's serve four times in a 6-2, 6-3 victory. He plays Fritz Wolmarans in the final round of qualifying Monday.

Rhyne Williams and Tennys Sandgren automatically got in the main draw because of their ranking, and both drew seeded players. Sandgren plays top seed and former Baylor standout Benjamin Becker, and Williams takes on fifth-seeded Rik de Voest.

Williams and de Voest have played each other twice in the last year, each winning a match. Williams beat de Voest in straight sets in 2011 US Open qualifying, but de Voest earned a long three set win against Williams on his home courts at the 2011 Knoxville Challenger.
