Sophomore Mikelis Libietis and partner Oskars Vaskis advanced to the quarterfinals of an ITF Futures event Tuesday in Jurmala, Latvia.
Libietis, winner of one Futures doubles event and a finalist in three others, and Vaskis beat Roberto Marcora and Gvida Sabeckis 6-1, 4-6, [10-4] in their first-round victory. They now face third-seeded Mark Vervoort and Francois-Arthur Vibert.
In singles, Libietis lost 6-3, 7-6 (6) to third-seeded and world No. 484 Michal Schmid.
This week marks Libietis' final summer tournament before returning to Tennessee for his second season. He was first-team All-SEC as a freshman last year, starting every match at No. 1 singles and doubles.
