ON TOUR: Smith, Peers Reach $100k Final

Former Vol John-Patrick Smith and Baylor standout John Peers stayed in the running for their fourth Challenger title of the year thanks to a comeback win Friday at the VanOpen in Vancouver, Canada.

Smith and Peers dropped the first set and fought off break points in the second to beat Austin Krajicek and Devin Britton 3-6, 6-3, [10-5] in the semifinals. The finals will be played Sunday as the Aussie collegiate duo will face either Danai Udomchoke and Jimmy Wang or Maxime Authom and Ruben Belemans.

Smith and Peers have formed a successful doubles pairing this year, having won three $50,000 Challenger titles. They were finalists at the $50,000 Winnetka Challenger last month, a tournament in which Smith won the singles title. This is their first doubles final at the $100,000 level.

Williams Starts Qualifying: Former Vol Rhyne Williams is set to begin qualifying at the $100,000 Aptos (Calif.) Challenger. Williams is seeded fourth and facing former Texas A&M star Jeff Dadamo in the first round.
