VOL PRO BOWL SELECTIONS
A school-record tying six former Vols made the NFL Pro Bowl as the rosters were announced on Wednesday night. Selected to the league's all-star game were strong safety Eric Berry, punter Dustin Colquitt, running back Arian Foster, quarterback Peyton Manning, linebacker Jerod Mayo and tight end Jason Witten. Five of the six: Berry, Colquitt, Foster, Manning and Mayo have been selected as starters.
With six selections, Tennessee is tied for having the most former players of any school in the nation. Along with the Vols, Miami (Fla.) also has six products in the Pro Bowl.
WITTEN SETS NFL RECORD'
Former Vols star Jason Witten set the NFL record for catches in a season by a tight end with 103 after he made six catches for 60 yards in the Dallas Cowboys' 34-31 overtime loss to the Saints on Sunday. Witten broke the mark with his sixth catch, coming early in overtime.
Witten broke the record of Tony Gonzalez, who had 102 catches with the Chiefs in 2004. Witten became the third NFL tight end with 100 catches in a single-season following Gonzalez and Dallas Clark of the Colts, who also had 100 in 2009.
Witten also became the second Tennessee product with 100 catches in a season joining Carl Pickens, who had 100 catches in 1996 with the Cincinnati Bengals. Witten now holds the record for most catches by a former Vol in a season with 103.
Dallas closes out the regular-season at Washington next Sunday. He needs one catches to hit the 800-reception mark for his career. It would make him just the third NFL tight end to ever achieve the feat and the 26th player ever to do so.
ARIAN FOSTER LEAVES GAME
Arian Foster left Sunday's game against Minnesota with an irregular heartbeat, not believed to be serious. Foster said post-game "I'll be fine. I'll be okay. It's a very minor situation, so I'll be okay."
Foster had his least productiveÂÂ game of the season finishing with just 10 rushes for 15 yards.
His season total sits at 1,328 for the year, ranking fifth in the NFL. Despite not having a touchdown in the game, just his second game of the year without one, he still leads the NFL with 14 rushing touchdowns (16 total).
MANNING NFL RECORD CONTINUES TO GROW
After recording his 64th 300-yard passing game against Houston at the beginning of the NFL season, Peyton Manning notched his 71st 300-yard game of his career growing his NFL record.
It was his eighth 300-yard game of the season as his passing yards total improved to 4,355 yards. The total is the sixth highest of his career with a week to go in the regular season
