Witten Sets NFL Record For Catches By Tight End

Former Vols star Jason Witten set the NFL record for catches in a season by a tight end with 103 after he made six catches for 60 yards in the Dallas Cowboys' 34-31 overtime loss to the Saints on Sunday. Witten broke the mark with his sixth catch, coming early in overtime.

Witten broke the record of Tony Gonzalez, who had 102 catches with the Chiefs in 2004. Witten became the third NFL tight end with 100 catches in a single-season following Gonzalez and Dallas Clark of the Colts, who also had 100 in 2009.

Witten also became the second Tennessee product with 100 catches in a season joining Carl Pickens, who had 100 catches in 1996 with the Cincinnati Bengals. Witten now holds the record for most catches by a former Vol in a season with 103.

Dallas closes out the regular-season at Washington next Sunday.
