The Lady Vol basketball team is frequently active in
community service opportunities. Last
week, freshman Andraya Carter and sophomore Cierra Burdick paid a visit to East
Tennessee Children's Hospital in Knoxville to see a young Tennessee fan. Both players have embraced the program's long-standing commitment to giving back to the community and enjoy helping make other people smile, whether it be from time shared, an autographed ball or assisting in a Habitat for Humanity house build or dedication.
Holly Warlick has lent her presence to Rotary International in its fight to eradicate polio globally. The Tennessee head coach spent some time last fall speaking to the local Rotary Club and posed for a photo that is being used in a current campaign to stamp out the disease worldwide.
Warlick joins Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, action movie star Jackie Chan, golf legend Jack Nicklaus and conservationist Jane Goodall - all of whom are raising their thumbs and forefingers in the "this close" gesture in the print, outdoor and broadcast public service announcements being distributed worldwide.
Below is a Knoxville News Sentinel article detailing the
campaign, with a copy of Warlick's ad.
