Basketball writer Mechelle Voepel of espnW assesses the job first-year Tennessee head coach Holly Warlick has done this season of leading the Lady Volunteers. After losing all five starters from 2011-12 and missing three starters this year for a combined 50+ games, Warlick still guided the Big Orange to an SEC regular-season championship at 14-2, a 24-7 overall record and a ranking in the nation's top 10 entering the upcoming NCAA tournament.
Voepel used the following pull-out quote from long-time Georgia head coach Andy Landers:
"What Holly [Warlick] did was incorporate some freshmen and some players
who'd played totally different roles a year ago and made them a very,
very good basketball team. ... Holly took what she had and basically
rebuilt Tennessee this year into a Southeastern Conference champion."
