Pritt Named Diving Coach at Kansas

Former Tennessee diver Brian Pritt, who has served as volunteer assistant for the UT diving program the last three years, was recently named head diving coach at the University of Kansas.

Pritt lettered for the Vols as a diver from 1991-94 and competed on Dave Parrington's first diving squads at Tennessee. In addition to working alongside Parrington with the Vols and Lady Vols, Pritt has also been directing the age group program for Tennessee Diving, a Knoxville diving club based out of the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.

During Pritt's three-year stint as volunteer assistant at UT, Tennessee has enjoyed one of its best periods of diving success in program history.

In the last two seasons alone, the Vols and Lady Vols have earned SEC Diver of the Year accolades three times (Tori Lamp in 2012 and 2013; Ryan Helms in 2012) and have claimed five SEC titles. Tori Lamp was recently named the CSCAA National Women's Diver of the Year for her performance at the NCAA Championships, and Parrington was voted the 2013 CSCAA National Women's Diving Coach of the Year. Three Tennessee divers qualified for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, and Lamp recently won the platform competition at the U.S. World Trials.

"(Dave) was been a great mentor to me, and he definitely knows his stuff," Pritt said in Kansas' press release. "I have learned a lot from him and grew with him. I have learned a lot along the way too, and he has been there every step of the way and he has always been so supportive of me. I couldn't ask for a better coach."

Jason Witten Named No. 41 on NFL's Top 100

Former Tennessee star tight end Jason Witten was named No. 41 on the NFL's list of Top 100 players, up from No. 75 last year. Check out this video feature on Witten, which was revealed on Thursday night.

Last season, Witten posted the most productive season by a tight end in NFL history, recording 110 catches to break the single-season record of 102 set by Tony Gonzalez in 2004. He also finished with 1,039 receiving yards and three touchdowns en route to earning his eighth Pro Bowl selection in 10 NFL seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.

Witten's 806 career receptions and 8,949 career receiving yards both ranks as the third most by an NFL tight end. He has been named the recipient of the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award in each of the past two seasons. The award is based on a player's community service, as well as excellence on the field. Witten is the only player to earn the honors twice.

VFL Soldier Surprises Parents on Memorial Day

Mr. and Mrs. Neel were invited onto the field before the Memorial Day Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game to give a special message to their son serving overseas. Or, so they thought.

The truth was much better. U.S. Army Lt. Brandon Neel, a graduate of the University of Tennessee, showed up on the field during the interview and gave his parents what may be the surprise of their lives.

Neyland Stadium The Fourth Most Unique Field In Sports

http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/tenn/sports/m-footbl/auto_original/7133948.jpeg?1369326936

According to USA Today, Neyland Stadium is the fourth most unique field in sports.

From USA Today:
"On Sunday, sports fans will get a chance to see two of the most unique playing surfaces in sports. The French Open begins in Paris hours before gentlemen and ladies start their engines at the Indianapolis 500.

Coincidentally, it's brick that gives each venue its distinct surface. A 36-inch strip of bricks marks the finish line at the speedway, while the red clay at Roland Garros is made from crushed brick.

This got us thinking about other great fields in sports. Here's our list of the nine most unique. And remember, we're ranking playing surfaces, not the stadiums that contain them."
