Sept. 2, 2000 - No. 13 Tennessee 19, No. 22 Southern Miss 13
The Vols picked up the 700th win in program history in the 2006 opener with a 19-16 win over Southern Miss. With the departure of quarterback Tee Martin, the offense was still looking for someone to fill his shoes. The game was a defensive battle. Defensive end Will Overstreet had two sacks and safety. The Vols had nine total sacks for the game.

Sept. 2, 2006 - No. 23 Tennessee 35, No. 9 California 18
Erik Ainge threw four passes for touchdowns as the Vols raced to a 35-0 lead on the way to the 35-18 upset win over Cal before an electric crowd of 106,009. Robert Meachem caught two of the touchdowns, including an 80-yarder at the start of the third quarter that created a frenzy among the orange-clad fans.

"We've never seen anything like that. That's a pretty impressive atmosphere, there's no doubt about it," Cal coach Jeff Tedford said. "The environment they create gives Tennessee a real home field advantage."
