This Day In #Vols History (Sept. 3)

The Vols have won their last two games played on Sept. 3 after dropping the first three on the date.

September 3 (2-3)

1983 - L, 3-13 PITTSBURGH
1988 - L, 17-28 No. 12 Georgia
1994 - L, 23-25 No. 14 UCLA
2005 - W, 17-10 UAB
2011 - W, 42-16 MONTANA

Sept. 3, 2011 - Tennessee 42, Montana 16

Tennessee's 2011 football season began with the longest weather delay in school history. But lightning and high winds only delayed a first-half offensive deluge as the Vols rolled to a 42-16 victory over Montana in Neyland Stadium.

The Vols jumped out to a 14-point lead early in the first quarter thanks to a couple big plays from sophomore receivers Da'Rick Rogers and Justin Hunter. Both Hunter (146) and Rogers (100) had 100-yard receiving days and Tauren Poole ran for 98 yards and a score. Tyler Bray threw for 293 yards and three TDs.
