Former Vol standout Julio Borbon was selected by the Baltimore Orioles with the 12th pick in the Triple-A phase of the 2013 MLB Rule 5 Draft on Thursday.
An All-American in the Volunteers' outfield from 2005-07, Borbon is a speedster who can play all three outfield positions and bats left-handed.
A former first-round draft pick, Borbon is a .272/.318/.347 lifetime hitter in 288 big league games over parts of four seasons with the Texas Rangers and Chicago Cubs. He also has 47 stolen bases. A native of Starkville, Miss., Borbon was the Rangers' primary center fielder during their 2010 World Series campaign.
