Ramsey Records First Pro Hit, Home Run

#VFL Matt Ramsey has experienced a smooth transition following his trade to the Miami Marlins organization from Tampa Bay in early July. Now with the Double A Jacksonville Suns, Ramsey has maintained a 1.53 ERA with 26 strikeouts over his 17.2 total innings pitched for the Suns. And on Sunday night against the Mississippi Braves, he added another career milestone as the right-handed reliever hit a solo home run for his first-career hit as a professional.

Despite taking the loss in relief, Ramsey helped his team's cause against the Braves by recording his first-ever hit in the seventh, launching a home run over the right field wall to give Jacksonville a 3-2 lead. It marked just his third professional at-bat since being drafted by Tampa Bay in 2011.

During his three seasons with the Volunteer Baseball Program (2009-11), the former Farragut High School standout hit for a .262 average with six home runs, each accounted for during the 2010 season. He had 27 career RBIs and compiled a .402 slugging percentage over his 229 career at-bats, while holding a 4-6 record with nine saves and a 4.43 ERA in his 56 appearances (two starts) on the mound.
