Tennessee catcher Tyler Schultz and his Los Angeles Brewers of the California Collegiate League captured the league championship title on Sunday, defeating the Neptune Beach club in a 4-3 summer finale.
Schultz went 1-for-4 as starting catcher in the Brew Crew's season finale and received All-Tournament Team honors following the game. This summer, Schultz hit .295 with two doubles, one triple, one home run and 13 RBIs in his 31 total games. He scored 17 runs for the Brewers and held a .378 on-base percentage during that span.
A native of California, Schultz shared the championship with another Vol, incoming transfer pitcher Steven Kane
. Kane, who comes to Knoxville from Cypress College in California, went 0-3 with three saves in his nine games with the Brewers and compiled a 2.99 ERA.
