Manning Presents $500K To Summitt Foundation

UT

The Knoxville News Sentinel has this story: Manning presents Summitt's foundation with donation and Photo Gallery

University of Tennessee football great Peyton Manning signed a large, ceremonial check this afternoon and added a touching note at the Cherokee Country Club, officially gifting the Pat Summitt Foundation with its largest donation to date.

"To Pat," he wrote, "together we will win."

The $500,000 commitment, made by Manning and his wife, Ashley, is the largest gift so far to the Pat Summitt Foundation, which formed soon after the Lady Vols coach emeritus announced her Alzheimer's disease diagnosis in 2011.

The four-time NFL MVP and current Denver Broncos quarterback was joined at the presentation by Tyler Summitt, who co-founded the organization with his mother, and foundation board chair Jim Haslam.

Pat Summitt spoke briefly, expressing her gratitude.

"This is a special, special day and it belongs to all of you as well as us," she said. "And obviously, Peyton, you're the best."

Daily Beacon Story on Dave Hart, Future Of Athletics

Amid post-Spring Break chaos, the Chancellor's Honors Program quietly continued its brown bag lecture series Tuesday in the Howard H. Baker Center for Public Policy with guest Dave Hart, vice chancellor and director of athletics.

Hart took questions from attendees and led a round-table discussion over sandwiches, chatting openly about the turmoil surrounding the football program. As Hart sees it, the solution lies not in change but in consistency.

"When you look at championship programs, what you see is stability," Hart said, "And there has been too much transition in leadership positions. But we are on our way to establishing stability."

In the hire of UT's newest coach, Hart believes he has found that stability.

"I think we got the right guy in Butch Jones," Hart said, citing his great "track record" and recruitment abilities. "This is where he wanted to be."
