Lady Vol junior pole vaulter Linda Hadfield has started 2013 with a bang, posting the three highest indoor marks in school history through four meets. As Hadfield and the rest of the Tennessee track & field team prepare to split up this weekend for the last meet before the championship portion of the season, check out this feature on the Upstate New Yorker from her local hometown newspaper.

University of Tennessee faculty, students, staff and alumni are sharing their big ideas that are making a difference in the world around them. Recent Lady Vol track & field alum Elizabeth Tiller - a 2012 graduate in public administration and Spanish - shared her big idea of improving the lives of the homeless and underprivileged through a 5K fundraiser. Happy Birthday - Jan. 6: Bailey, Knotts, Linn

Pair of birthdays in the Tennessee track & field programs on Jan. 6. Celebrating are thrower Tavis Bailey and recent graduate and 2012 Torchbearer Award winner Chelsea Knotts.

Also celebrating a birthday is the "original" Jeremy Linn, who swam for Tennessee in the 1990s and went to win a silver medal for USA in the 1996 Olympics.

Happy Birthday - Jan. 5: Arencibia, Johnson, Wortham

On Jan. 5, we send Happy Birthday wishes for former Vols baseball star and current Toronto Blue Jay J.P. Arencibia.


Also celebrating on Jan. 5 are Ty-Vonna Johnson, who competes for cross country and track field along with recent track graduate Ellen Wortham.

Happy Birthday - Dec. 18: Sheffey, Wallis, Randa

On Dec. 18, we wish Happy Birthday to recent graduate Brittany Sheffey, who was a standout in track & field as well as baseball's director of operations Gregg Wallis.

From the archives, former Vols' baseball player and longtime major leaguer Joe Randa, who celebrates his birth on Dec. 18. Randa played for Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Cincinnati and San Diego in 12 seasons. 

Happy Birthday: Dec. 1 - Cheekmore, Heyland, McMichael, Summers

On Dec. 1, we wish Happy Birthday to sophomore runner J.R. Creekmore of the cross country and track teams, junior swimmer Oystein Hetland and junior tight end Dakota Summers of the football team.

Also from the archives, former Vols baseball pitcher and longtime major leaguer Greg McMichael, celebrates his birthday. McMichael pitched with the Braves, Mets, Dodgers and A's in his career from 1993-2000.


Tennessee Update: T&F/XC Blog (10/10)

Former Vol Aries Merritt represented the Big Orange track & field program well this summer, capturing the gold medal at the London Olympics and breaking the world record in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 12.8 seconds in Brussels. After his whirlwind season, the former NCAA champion recently made a trip back to where it all started, Wheeler High School in Marietta, Ga. In addition, Merritt is up for a prestigious award, the annual Jesse Owens Athlete of the Year Award, and needs Vol fans help. Click the link below to vote for the former Vol.
