From the archives, former baseball and football Vol Alan Cockrell turns 51 on Dec. 5. He became the first freshman to start at quarterback for the Vols in 1981. On the diamond, Cockrell was an All-American outfielder for UT and was drafted ninth overall by the Giants in 1984. He made his major league debut with the Rockies in 1996 and went on to coach with the Rockies and Mariners.
