From the archives, former baseball and football Vol Alan Cockrell turns 50 on Dec. 5. He became the first freshman to start at quarterback for the Vols in 1981. On the baseball diamond, Cockrell was an All-American outfielder for UT and was drafted ninth overall by the Giants in 1984. He made his major league debut with the Rockies in 1996 and has gone on coach with the Rockies and Mariners.
Big day of birthdays in Tennessee Athletics on Nov. 12. Celebrating are freshman basketball guard Andraya Carter, junior rower Michelle Goodwin, sophomore soccer midfielder Brittney Wade and senior football defensive back Rod Wilks.
Also, former Tennessee football star and longtime NFL defensive back Gibril Wilson celebrates his birthday on Nov. 12.
Junior midfielder Tori Bailey's energy and an agility on the field are unmatched. Her aggressive style of play and her 5-0 stature make her easy to spot from the stands. In addition to being a fan favorite at Regal Soccer Stadium, Bailey is also one of the most inquired about player on the road.
Bailey's inspired play and kind heart make her easy for fans to identify with.
"I was told a bunch of times that I wasn't big enough and I wasn't good enough," Bailey said. "It was kind of like a challenge for me - wanting to be better and wanting to succeed. I just love the game; it has always come so natural to me. When I get out in the field, everything changes. I just have that hunger and passion. I would set a goal, meet that goal and want to meet another goal."
