Happy Birthday - Sept. 15: Hammond, Hochevar, Mack, McEver, Richardson

On Sept. 15, we celebrate five Tennessee athletics' birthdays. Current men's basketball player Josh Richardson turns 20 today. We also wish Happy Birthday to former softball player Whitney Hammond, former Vol and current Kansas City Royals pitcher Luke Hochevar, Olympic gold medalist pole vaulter Tim Mack and Tennessee football legend Gene McEver.

On Sept. 4, we celebrate the birthday of rising Tennessee softball sophomore Rainey Gaffin. The outfielder appeared in 57 games, including 38 starts, in her first season as a Lady Vol.

Softball Alum Hosfield Named Asst. At Kennesaw State

Tennessee softball alum Cat Hosfield (2009-12) was recently named an assistant coach at Kennesaw State. Hosfield, who went 49-22 with a 2.91 ERA and 375 strikeouts during her four-year Tennessee career, previously worked as a graduate assistant coach at Armstrong Atlantic State.

Gibson Featured By Responsible Sports Program

Tennessee's Lauren Gibson was recently featured by the Liberty Mutual Insurance Responsible Sports program. In the above clip, Gibson discusses how she has improved her game. So far this summer, Gibson has been Team USA's top hitter in international play.

Renfroe & Abbott Take Field In Saturday's Akron-Chicago Game

Tennessee softball alums Ivy Renfroe and Monica Abbott played in the same game on Saturday as Renfroe's Akron Racers hosted Abbott's Chicago Bandits at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN2. The Bandits came away with a 6-5 win. Renfroe started the game for Akron and took the loss after throwing 3.1 innings with four strikeouts. Abbott fanned six over three relief frames to earn the save.

The Racers and the Bandits will play again Saturday night at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN2. Abbott is scheduled to start for Chicago.

NPF on ESPN Networks

There's a potential for an NPF duel between Tennessee softball alums on Saturday! On Saturday, there will be two NPF games between the Akron Racers and the Chicago Bandits on ESPN2, one at 1 p.m. ET and one at 8 p.m. ET. Ivy Renfroe (2010-13) plays for Akron and Monica Abbott (2004-07) plays for Chicago.
