We've got a quartet of birthdays to celebrate on Rocky Top on this 11th day of June. We're wishing a happy birthday to the fearless leader of Lady Vol basketball, Holly Warlick
, as well as to women's swimming's Colleen Callahan
, former men's swimmer Sam Petersen
, and baseball VFL Will Maddox
Warlick has spent 30 years at the University of Tennessee -- a span that includes time as a player, an assistant coach, and three years in her current role of head women's basketball coach. A three-time All-American point guard for UT (1976-80), Warlick spent 27 years as a loyal assistant to legendary coach Pat Summitt before taking over the reins of the program in 2012.
A rising junior, Callahan was an NCAA qualifier during her sophomore season. She competed in the 200 breaststroke, 200 IM, and 400 IM at the national meet, recording a new career-best time of 1:59.70 in the 200 IM. Callahan is a member of the 2015 SEC Academic Honor Roll and is celebrating her 20th birthday today.
Petersen saw his UT career come to a close in 2014 as he finished ranked No. 6 all-time in program history in the 1000 freestyle (9:09.17) and No. 9 in the 1650 freestyle (15:11.21). The Short Hills, New Jersey, native was a two-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
Before being drafted in the 18th round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers, Maddox played infield for three seasons with the Diamond Vols. He started in 157 of his 160 career games and posted a .309 batting average with five home runs and 60 RBIs. He is currently playing first base for the West Michigan Whitecaps of Class A.
Happy birthday Holly, Colleen, Sam, and Will!
