On August 26, we wish Happy Birthday to former offensive lineman Carson Anderson and legendary Vols running back Jamal Lewis. We also celebrate the birthdays of sophomore swimmer Harper Bruens and sophomore soccer player Susan Ferguson.

August 23rd marks the birthday of former Vol basketball and Chicago Bulls great Tom Boerwinkle, who passed away on March 26, 2013. The 4th pick in the 1968 NBA Draft, Boerwinkle was an All-American and helped lead UT to the 1967 SEC Championship.

Also celebrating birthdays today is men's swimmer Jimmy Dagley and former Vol track thrower Drew Thomas.

On August 9, we celebrate the birthdays of current Tennessee swimmer Miles Garner, former Vol football walk-on Chris Cates, former Tennessee men's basketball player Clint Newman and Lady Vol hoops stars Shyra Ely and Chamique Holdsclaw.

On August 8, we wish happy birthday to three former Tennessee student-athletes. Former Tennessee men's basketball star Scotty Hopson, who shined in the NBA's summer league for the Miami Heat this summer, celebrates his 24th birthday today. Former Lady Vol swimmer Brooke Watson turns 22.

Today is also the birthday of former Vol football player Bill Nowling. Nowling, who lost his life fighting for America in World War II, had his No. 32 retired in his honor in 2006. 

Christine Magnuson Announces Retirement

Lady Vol great and Olympic medalist Christine Magnuson announced her retirement from competitive swimming at the end of the FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain. 

Magnuson enjoyed one of the greatest collegiate and professional swimming careers in Lady Vol history. As a senior, she won the NCAA title in 2008 just months before making a splash on the international stage. She represented Team USA at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, taking silver in the 100-meter butterfly and doing the same in the 400 medley relay. 

She earned her spot on the U.S. team for the 2013 World Championships, where she finished 10th in the 50 butterfly. 
On August 4, we celebrate the birthdays of Vol distance runner Jordan Chaney, former Lady Vol swimmer Courtney Ciesielski and former men's golfer Justin Walker.

Former men's basketball player Rob Jones, who ranks third all-time in games played (130), and former Lady Vol hoops and current Seattle Storm star Shekinna Stricklen also celebrate birthdays today.

Happy Birthday - July 29: Kirstyn Colonias

On July 29, we celebrate the birthday of former Tennessee swimmer Kirstyn Colonias. A December 2012 graduate, Colonias competed in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke for the Lady Vols.

Parrington Featured by SEC

The Southeastern Conference's Sean Cartell recently published a story about UT's longtime diving coach Dave Parrington

Parrington, who was voted the CSCAA Women's Diving Coach of the Year, has spent the last two weeks in Spain with rising senior Tori Lamp at the FINA World Championships. Lamp, the national diver of the year, placed 10th on platform Thursday. 

Linn Heading to Pa. Hall of Fame

Vol swimming great Jeremy Linn will be among those inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in October. 

Linn, who swam at UT from 1995-98, represented the United States at the 1996 Olympic Games. He was part of the world-record setting gold medal 400-meter medley relay team. He also claimed silver in the 100 breaststroke. 

Linn was a six-time NCAA champion in his time with the Vols. He won the NCAA title in the 100-yard breaststroke three times from 1996-98. He was part of both the Vols' championship medley relay teams in 1996 and won the 200 breaststroke in 1997. In SEC competition, Linn won four consecutive titles in the 100 breaststroke and two titles in the 200 breaststroke. He was the SEC Swimmer of the Year in 1995, 1997 and 1998. 

The hall of fame induction ceremonies will be Oct. 19.
