Men's Swimming & Diving Ranked 8th Nationally

The Tennessee has opened the year eighth in the CSCAA's Division I men's swimming and diving national team rankings.

With nearly everyone back this year plus some key newcomers, the Vols are looking to build off last year's postseason performance. Tennessee finished fourth in the Southeastern Conference and 16th at the NCAA Championships.

The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division 1 Team Rankings are voted on by eight CSCAA-member coaches and one media member.   The rankings will be released on a regular basis throughout the 2013-14 season, alternating weeks between a men's and women's team ranking.

The CSCAA D1 Poll Committee will produce in-season rankings of the 25 best performing NCAA Division 1 Swimming and Diving teams in rank order at the time of each poll.  The poll is not designed to predict the results of the NCAA Championship, but rather which teams would win head-to-head against other teams in the country. Rankings are based on performances that have taken place since the previous poll and include invites as well as dual meets.

Swimming & Diving in the News

The Tennessee swimming and diving team has been in the news quite a bit over the last few days, for stories of survival and recovery to national team predictions.

Former Tennessee swimmer Nicole Gross and her husband (another UT swimming alum) Michael, were both injured in the Boston Marathon bombing at the finish line earlier this year. Both returned to Knoxville and the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center recently to meet with the team. Nicole Gross' quest for recovery is documented in this USA Today feature.

SwimSwam, an international swimming news organization, has been rolling through in-depth season previews of the top college programs. The women's squad took third place last year at the NCAA Championships for the first time. This season, SwimSwam again predicts a top-five finish at NCAAs.

Happy Birthday - Oct. 8: Cheyenne Spade, Carl Svagerko
