Bawcombe Coming Off Big Weekend for UT

True freshman outside hitter Kelsey Bawcombe will make her first foray into SEC play this weekend riding a strong outing over four matches at the DISH Lady Vol Classic. The California native totaled 35 kills, 31 digs, and 10 total blocks on her way to earning the honor, helping Tennessee to a 2-2 record. In the Lady Vols' gritty 3-2 win over Mercer, Bawcombe recorded her first career double-double behind a career-best 17 kills and 15 digs. She has started each of the last three matches for Tennessee. Former libero and VFL Ellen Mullins will receive a distinct honor on Thursday night when Father Ryan High School in Nashville retires her jersey in a pre-match ceremony at the Catignani-Drennan Fieldhouse at 5:30 p.m. CT.

In her distinguished time with the UT volleyball program, Mullins set six program records for the Orange and White. She is currently the Lady Vols' all-time leader in career digs with 1,801 scoops over four seasons. She also set the single-season marks for digs in 2013 during her senior campaign when she racked up 640 digs in 32 matches last year.

Mullins was a two-time AVCA All-American as well as a two-time AVCA All-South Region selection. Over her career, she also earned seven SEC Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Mullins started all four seasons of her prep career at Father Ryan, garnering All-State and All-Region accolades each season. She helped Father Ryan reach the state championship match in each year of her career and was also recognized as an honor roll student.

True freshman Claudia Coco was featured in the Knoxville News Sentinel on Thursday. Mike Strange profiled the rookie defensive specialist, who arrived on Rocky Top as the national high school record holder in career digs.

A freshman with a wealth of international experience already under her belt, Puerto Rico native Kanisha Jimenez has settled in nicely with the UT volleyball program. Hailing from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Jimenez has started in eight of this season's 10 matches and leads the team with 35 sets played. Displaying a well-rounded skill set, Jimenez is fifth on the team in total kills with 45, third on the team in total blocks with 24, and second on the team in total digs at 106. She recorded her first double-double of her career in a 3-1 win, posting 11 kills to go with 20 digs and has the most aces in any single game for the Lady Vols this season after dropping in four at Evansville.

Here's a look at a feature story from the University of Tennessee's Daily Beacon, documenting Jimenez's transition to Knoxville:
