Happy Birthday - April 18

We've got three birthdays to celebrate on this 18th day of April as we send 'happy birthday' wishes to swimmer Caroline Finkbeiner and Eve Repic of women's tennis, not to mention former Lady Vol golf standout Erica Popson

Finkbeiner recently concluded her junior season with the Tennessee swimming and diving program. She competed in five events for UT: the 50, 100, 200, and 500 freestyle and the 200 butterfly. She earned her best finish of the season, a runner-up placement, at Queens after swimming 500-yard freestyle in five minutes, 4.56 seconds. In total, she racked up nine top-10 finishes over the 2014-15 season. Finkbeiner turns 21 years old today.



A sophomore from Ontario, Canada, Repic recently concluded her second season on Rocky Top with a singles record of 16-11. For her career, she is 38-23 overall. Repic went out with a win, defeating Emily Flickinger of Auburn 6-1, 7-6 during the opening round of the 2015 SEC Women's Tennis Tournament. She was ranked as high as No. 40 this season. Born this day in 1995, Repic turns 20 today.



A four-year standout for Tennessee women's golf from 2009-13, Popson recorded eight top finishes over her career for the Orange and White. She won top medalist honors at the 2011 SEC Championship, firing a three day total of 210 (66-74-70) before going on to another victory at the NCAA West Regional. Popson finished her career with 18 top-10 finishes, 51 rounds of par or better, and a scoring average of 73.40. She was a three-time All-American and a two-time All-SEC performer. Following graduation, she earned membership status into the LPGA and earned full exemption into the LPGA Tour for 2014.

Happy Birthday - Feb. 25

On Feb. 25, we're sending out Happy Big Orange Birthday wishes to tennis senior Joanna Henderson!

A native of Aberdeen, Scotland, Henderson has competed all four seasons for the Orange and White. She is a two-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and has claimed back-to-back doubles titles at the Tennessee Invite with teammate Caitlin Williams.

Happy Birthday - Feb. 19

On Feb. 19 we're wishing a happy birthday to football mid-year enrollee Quinten Dormady and former Lady Vol tennis great Caitlin Whoriskey!

A four-star quarterback out of Boerne, Texas, Dormady arrives on Rocky Top after totalling nearly 6,000 passing yards and 59 touchdown passes in two varsity seasons at Beorne H.S. As a senior, Dormady threw for 2,893 yards and 32 touchdowns en route to leading the Greyhounds to an 8-3 record and a berth in the playoffs. He turns 19 years old today. 


A 2010 graduate from the University of Tennessee, Whoriskey recorded 92 singles victories and 113 doubles wins over her career at UT. She was a three-time All-SEC selection, an All-American as a junior in 2008-09, and advanced to the final of of the 2010 NCAA Doubles Championship with teammate Natalie Pluskota.

Lady Vol Illustrated returns to the airwaves tonight at 7 p.m., on the Lady Vol Network. Lady Vol fans can tune in once a week for Lady Vols Illustrated, a weekly radio show featuring Lady Vol basketball Head Coach Holly Warlick, one women's basketball student-athlete and one other Lady Vol student-athlete or coach. The show is hosted by Voice of the Lady Vols Mickey Dearstone along with Knoxville News Sentinel sports writer Dan Fleser.

 

Tonight's Lady Vols Illustrated features assistant coach Dean Lockwood and live appearances from senior Cierra Burdick and women's tennis player Caitlyn Williams.


Burdick is averaging 9.3 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game.

Feature Story on Williams Tennis Tradition

The Daily Beacon ran a feature story today on senior Caitlyn Williams and her family tennis-playing tradition.

Williams is the third person in her family to play tennis at Tennessee. Her older brother, Rhyne, was an All-American for the Vols in 2010 and 2011 and currently plays on the professional tennis circuit. Her mother, Michelle, was also a Tennessee All-American, and her father, Bob, played at Duke. Her grandfather, Mike DePalmer Sr., was the Tennessee men's head coach from 1981-1994.

Happy Birthday to women's tennis sophomore Laurence Guevremont!
Laurence Guevremont
Guevremont is a native of Montreal, Quebec. During her freshman debut, she notches her longest singles win-streak of the season winning four back-to-back matches. She finished the season with a winning record of 17-14 in singles and has a 10-17 record in doubles.

Happy Birthday - Sept. 18

Join us in wishing a very Happy Birthday to Geraldo Orta of football and Tiffany Tavares of women's tennis.



Defensive back Orta, a redshirt junior, has tallied up nine career tackles in 24 games. Orta has appeared in all three games this season.

Tavares won a season high straight four matches in her sophomore season. She sealed the first SEC win with an individual victory against South Carolina.

Whoriskey Sweeps Pro Circuit Titles



Former Lady Vol Caitlin Whoriskey began her summer off on the right foot this weekend sweeping the singles and doubles titles from the ITF Head/First Federal $10,000 tournament at Van Der Meer Tennis Club.

Caitlin Whoriskey is unlikely to forget her first ever USTA Pro Circuit singles championship.

Her gritty display during a spectacular second set sealed a dynamic double for the Cape Cod native. A day after Whoriskey and playing partner Sonja Molnar captured the doubles championship, Whoriskey outlasted No. 1 seed Elise Mertens 6-4, 7-6 to win the ITF Head/First Federal $10,000 tournament at Van Der Meer Tennis Club.
