Percy Strength Facility/Kerin Training Room
The University of Tennessee's Percy Strength Facility sets the standard for collegiate strength and conditioning facilities across the country. Located in the Neyland-Thompson Sports Center, Vol athletes are able integrate speed, conditioning and plyometric training on the indoor practice field. The 12,000 square-foot facility is a major reason why Tennessee is able to house over 50,000 pounds of free weights, including over 25,000 pounds of custom-engraved Iron-Grip plates. The vast dumbbell area includes over 14,000 pounds of Ivanko dumbbells ranging from 10 pounds to 190 pounds. A full line of Hammer Strength equipment containing over 20 pieces is used specifically for rehabilitation and supplemental training. Rounding out the facility are 17 Olympic-style platforms, five power racks, 10 Sorinex custom-built bench presses, a cardio area containing two Woodway treadmills, three Life Fitness bikes, a Schwinn Spin bike, a Precour Elliptical trainer and a Stairmaster Stepmil. Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, Aaron Ausmus, leads the way for one of the largest strength and conditioning staff in the country. Recognized by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association as a mentoring program, numerous student assistants work year-round within the strength and conditioning department. Tennessee boasts an average athlete to coach ratio of 4:1, which ensures safety and proper instruction of each, individual athlete. The Percy Facility also houses a state-of-the-art Nutrition Center where full-time Nutritionist Allison Maurer oversees the Vol nutrition program for all 11 sports and distributes supplements. Easily accessible for a nutritional consultation, Maurer educates Vol athletes regarding healthy eating habits, achieving a proper bodyweight, supplements and much more.
The Tim Kerin Sports Medicine Facility is located inside the Neyland-Thompson Sports Complex, and is known to be one of the nation's top rehabilitation and athletic training centers. Named after the legendary former Head Athletic Trainer Tim Kerin, who passed away suddenly in 1992, the Sports Medicine Facility is considered the main hub for our student-athlete's medical needs, allowing our student-athletes to see experts in various medical fields (i.e.: Optometrist, Cardiology, Neurology, Dentistry, Podiatry, Dermatology, etc.). The Tim Kerin Sports Medicine Facility compromises 8,000 square feet of the most modern equipment available on the market. Tennessee's training facility is considered one of the most functional and comprehensive in the country; serving more than 300 student-athletes on 8 different Division I athletic teams. The Sports Medicine Facility was recently renovated. These renovations include: the addition of a physicians' suite, including X-Ray capabilities, the addition of state-of-the-art rehabilitation equipment, and many cosmetic upgrades. The University of Tennessee was the first collegiate training room to house an on site pharmacy, and has been a model for other sports medicine facilities nationwide. Around the country, there are only a handful of Sports Medicine Facilities that have an onsite State Licensed pharmacy to allow physicians immediate access to prescription medication. The Sports Medicine Facility allows our student-athlete daily and comprehensive access to world-class healthcare providers. Serving the student-athlete is, and has always been, our number one goal. |
