The University of Tennessee Varsity Tennis Courts are considered to be among the finest outdoor playing facilities in the intercollegiate ranks.

The facility features six courts which are located on the west side of campus, across from the Presidential Court Complex - a hub of student activity - and behind the Apartments Residence Hall.

The six courts have been refurbished on a regular basis since being built in 1976, with the latest renovation coming prior to the 1997 season. The facility was completed in 1981 with the addition of a 2000-seat grandstand and a modern two-story clubhouse containing team locker rooms, coaches' offices, an equipment room, press facilities and a concession stand. Lights for the courts were donated in 1987 by former Vol All-America Paul Annacone.

Since the facility's completion, Knoxville-area tennis enthusiasts and Tennessee students have filled the Varsity Court stands to see collegiate tennis at its best.

The Varsity Courts have hosted of numerous prestigious tournaments, including SEC Championships, Region III Championships and several high school tournaments. The courts are also used in the summer for the Big Orange Tennis Camps.

Tennessee's tennis student-athletes are fortunate to call one of the nation's most impressive collegiate indoor facilities home.

Opened in 1997, the Goodfriend Tennis Complex is home to Tennessee's men's and women's tennis squads. The four-court indoor facility plays host to all UT indoor matches and gives the Vols a winter home and a way to contiunue competition or practice in the event of inclement weather. The Goodfriend Tennis Complex is the first of its kind on the UT campus.

Following the 1998 season, Tennessee moved all tennis operations into the the Goodfriend Center. The new "Home of the Vols" boasts four courts, a capacity for 500 fans, a reception area and a concession stand.

For the coaches and players, the facility also features new locker rooms, a team room and coaches' offices for the daily use of the UT Tennis programs.

The Goodfriend Tennis Center hosted the 1998 SEC Indoor Championships and has played host to UT's annual O'Charley's Tennis Classic since 1998.
