One purpose of the tryout is to select a group who possess the best mastery of pom, jazz, ballet and skills. A second purpose is to determine the best representatives for the University of Tennessee. During the tryouts, a panel of coaches and specialists in the field of jazz and ballet will make cuts until the final team is selected. The coaching staff strongly encourages a basic understanding of ballet and jazz technique. This will include proper body alignment and basic movement vocabulary in ballet and jazz.

The format of the tryout covers three mandatory days of clinic, where skills and routines are taught. The routines will begin with basics and advance into lengthy combinations as the weekend progresses.

Required skills - advanced execution of kicks, split leaps, triple/quadruple pirouettes, switch leaps, fouettes and flexibility (splits, etc).

Required Tryout Attire - Clothing is to be dark, solid colors for tryouts. No loose-fitting clothes allowed during the tryout weekend, including boot-cut dance pants. Crop tops are mandatory. Shoes are a personal preference, remember a variety of dance styles will be introduced during the weekend. Knee pads are suggested. Do not wear jewelry!
