New NCAA Initial Eligibility Standards

Feb. 12, 2003

The NCAA has recently amended the initial eligibility requirements that will have a significant impact on prospective student-athletes. If you are not already aware of these changes, they are listed below.

In order to be eligible for financial aid, practice, and competition a prospective student-athlete must meet NCAA initial eligibility requirements (outlined below). The NCAA has passed "new" initial eligibility requirements that go into effect for those student-athletes who enroll on or after August 1, 2003. However, the NCAA has granted a two-year window where either the "old" or "new" NCAA initial eligibility requirements may be used.

Beginning for all prospective student-athletes, which enter on or after August 1, 2005, must use the "new" initial eligibility standards.

Be aware, by meeting the NCAA initial eligibility standards does not grant admission to The University of Tennessee
