University of Tennessee Lettermen's Club

Tim Irwin
Dear Lettermen,

2006 has been a great Fall to be a "T" Club member. We just completed our Lettermen's weekend, with a dinner and ceremony honoring our three honorary; Bill Higdon, Becky Harman and Gene Hartman. We also selected Dr. Bob Overholt as the Lettermen Service Award winner. We had a great meal at the Foundry, a musical performance by Dennis Wolfe, comic relief by Haywood Harris and Gus Manning as they highlighted their new book and remarks by our recipient. We also had Gary Wyant describe for us the most current planning that has gone into the new "T" Club room, which will be located inside Neylend Stadium. The room will be approximately 7,000 square feet, with upper and lower levels, completely handicapped accessible and will be available for use, at least through half time. The projected cost of the room is 1.5 million dollars, and this cost is included in Phase 2 of the Neyland Stadium renovations expected to be complete in 2008.

It is great to be a part of a University that remembers and honors its former men and women athletes in this fashion. Our men's and women's basketball teams are off to great starts, and we look for an exciting year from both programs. Judy Constantine is making plans in for our Spring gathering in Chattanooga, Memphis and Nashville, and our Executive Board is looking forward to making contact with our out-of-town members at these events.

On Saturday morning, prior to the Kentucky game, we held our annual meeting in the Ray Mear's room at Thompson Boling Arena. We had a great breakfast and the meeting was well attended. Joe Gallager who played football in 1976 was the probably the former Vol who traveled the furthest from Philadelphia, and it was good to see Joe as well as several more familiar faces at this event. As we look toward winter and spring, we are of course gearing up for Lettermen Golf Tournament, which will be held at Willow Creek Golf Course in the spring. As always, I look forward to your comments, questions or concerns or call Judy at (865) 974-9054.

I hope you and your family have a safe and happy holidays, and I look forward to visiting with you this winter at our men's and women's basketball games.

Please don't hesitate to E-Mail your questions or concerns regarding your "T" Club at t-club@utk.edu.
