Knoxville, Tenn. - The Auburn Tigers scored six runs over the last three innings to overcome a 4-0 deficit and defeat the Tennessee Volunteers, 6-4, in front of a crowd of 2,104 at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
Auburn improved to 33-10 on the season and 10-7 in the Southeastern Conference. Tennessee fell to 32-13 and 6-9 in the conference.
Auburn was held to one hit through six innings by Tennessee starter Wyatt Allen before scoring an unearned run in the seventh on Gabe Gross' triple off the center field wall to cut the Volunteer lead to 4-1.
A three-run eighth, keyed by Dominic Rich's two-run single off Vol reliever Brandon Crowe (2-4) tied the game at 4-4. Then in the ninth, Auburn reeled off three straight hits, including a run scoring single by Todd Faulkner that plated Mailon Kent with the go-ahead run to make it 5-4.
Faulkner later added an insurance run for the Tigers as he plated when Brent Burnham reached on a fielders choice following Tennessee' fourth error of the game.
Brandon Mayfield (5-1) worked a perfect eighth inning for the win and Colter Bean recorded his third save as he retired three of the four Vols he faced in the ninth.
Tiger starter Chris Bootcheck allowed all four runs on 10 hits in seven innings of work. Tennessee got on the board in the second on Ryan Case's two-run and took a 4-0 lead in the fourth when John Massey scored on Kris Bennett's single and Ryan Moffet plated when Chris Burke reached on a fielders choice.
