The University of Tennessee Athletics Department presented a check for $1.375 million to UT Chancellor Loren Crabtree at Saturday's football game against California.
"A key goal of athletics is to be a good citizen -- to the university, the city of Knoxville and the state of Tennessee," said Mike Hamilton, men's athletics director. "This is just one of the ways we can give back to the university and UT students."
Every year the athletics department provides funds to the university for academic scholarships awarded to non student-athletes. These funds for fiscal year 2006 totaled $1.375 million, providing more than 2,400 students the opportunity to further their education. In addition, the athletics department spent $6.48 million for scholarships for 348 student-athletes in the 2005-06 academic year.
