Our Greatest Honor(s)

Each year about this time we have a column titled "Our Greatest Honor(s)." The title is a reference to the awarding of "Honorary Letterman" status to several individuals who have distinguished themselves through their service to UT's mens and women's athletic departments. This year we will be awarding our Honorary Lettermen certificates along with our Lettermen's Service Award for contributions made by a letterman to The University of Tennessee during our Fall Lettermen's Weekend (November 23rd and 24th - the Vanderbilt game). Our Board decided that we should make these awards during our annual meeting.

We are seeking nominations for both awards. The criteria for each award is as follows:

1. Honorary Lettermen - Honorary membership may be bestowed on any individual for outstanding service or achievement reflecting favorably on the University of Tennessee and specifically its men's and/or women's athletic programs. Nominees shall not have been a letterman in any sport at the University of Tennessee and should not have been previously awarded this distinction. Note that this award is considered our highest honor and please make nominations with this in mind.

2. Lettermen's Service Award - This award is for letter winners, both from the men's and women's athletic departments, whose service to the University of Tennessee, the Athletic Department, and their community has highly distinguished them. Our first award winner was Bill Anderson, the "other" Voice of the Vols for many years. Bill's receipt of this award serves as our organization's anchor and a goal to be reached by those being considered for this award.

Winners of both awards will be announced at the "T" Club annual meeting prior to the kickoff of the Kentucky game. Additionally, the winners will be presented on the field either at pre-game or at halftime. Plaques are now hanging in the "T" Club Room indicate all winners of these awards. Stop by and look at them. They truly symbolize our organization's "Hall of Fame".

Nominations from our membership are due in the "T" Club (P.O. Box 47, Knoxville, TN 37901) no later than October 15, 2001. Nominations must be made in writing with a brief statement supporting the nomination. Please be sure to include the name and address of the nominee, as well as your name and address. Again remember, you must be a letterman to submit a nomination.

GO VOLS!!!
