Tom Satkowiak has been promoted by the University of Tennessee to associate sports information director and primary basketball contact.
Satkowiak joined the Tennessee SID staff in 2002, originally working as a student assistant, moving through the graduate ranks and earning the position of assistant SID in September 2005. Satkowiak spent four seasons as baseball contact for the Vols, including the College World Series campaign of 2005. During that period, he also coordinated production of the football game program and weekly football game notes in addition to his baseball duties.
"We are very fortunate to have such a quality person available to assume this position with our nationally-ranked basketball program," said Bud Ford, associate athletics director for media relations. "Tom has done an excellent job with the baseball team and will only enhance what is happening now in basketball."
The Bay City, Mich., native previously worked with UT's basketball program during the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons, serving as a graduate assistant under primary contact Craig Pinkerton. During that time, Satkowiak also served as chief SID contact for the highly successful men's tennis team.
During his four seasons with UT baseball, Satkowiak promoted 11 Vols who earned All-America or Freshman All-America honors. His professional honors at Tennessee include five CoSIDA citations for excellence in publications and one citation for excellence in writing.
Satkowiak (pronounced sat-KO-vee-ack) graduate summa cum laude from UT in December 2002 with a bachelor's degree in communications, and then completed his master's degree in sports studies at UT in May 2005. Satkowiak previously earned an associate's degree in journalism with honors from Delta College in University Center, Mich.
The 28-year-old lives in west Knoxville with his wife, the former Brooke Tilley of Athens.
