BLOOM'S HIGHLIGHTS

Jamie Bloom has been helping young athletes achieve success for over two decades. Now in her fifth season with the Lady Volunteer swimming and diving team since coming on board in September of 2000, Bloom passes her expertise on to UT swimmers. Included among her recruiting responsibilities are assisting Head Coach Dan Colella with all aspects of coaching and handling many of the administrative duties for the team. Since coming to UT, she has helped lead the Lady Vols to top-25 NCAA Championships finishes in three of her four seasons.

Prior to joining the staff at UT, Bloom served as the head boys' and girls' swimming and diving coach at James Buchanan High School in Mercersburg, Pa., overseeing many successful student-athletes including current UT student manager Paul "Zeke" Zeger. In addition, Bloom was also the assistant athletics director, the aquatics director and the health and physical education department chairperson, which included full-time teaching responsibilities. From 1982-89, she was also the head softball coach and led the squad to a conference championship.

In addition to her work at the high school level, Bloom was a coach and Assistant Director of the United Swimming Clinics swim camps at Hampshire College, Williston-Northhampton School, Blair Academy and Mercersburg Academy. She currently is focusing her summer involvement with the University of Tennessee swim camp. During separate stints throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Bloom was the head swimming coach of the Tuscarora Swim Club in Mercersburg, Pa., and also spent a year as the head water polo coach at the Mercersburg Academy.

A native of Lexington, Mass., Bloom earned her undergraduate degree in health and physical education from Slippery Rock University in 1982 and her master's degree in physical education and athletic administration from Western Maryland College in 1989. At Slippery Rock, she was the women's swim team manager for four years and was a member of the school's nationally-ranked women's water polo team.

In her spare time, Bloom enjoys playing golf and breeding Labrador retrievers, owning three dogs of her own as well as two cats. A life-long Boston Red Sox fan, Bloom finally celebrated a Red Sox World Series Championship, something she had come to believe she would never experience in her lifetime.
