DUAL MEET RECAP

  • After the graduation of All-American Ricky Henahan, Lehane and Sam Rairden took over as the Vols' leading backstrokers
  • As a freshman, broke the 200 backstroke school record, a 21-year-old mark held by Olympian Tripp Schwenk. He also swam the fifth-fastest 100 backstroke time in program history
  • Won first career race against UNC Wilmington in the 200 backstroke (1:48.96)
  • Kept up his winning ways in the 200 backstroke all season, taking first seven times during the dual meet season. He posted NCAA B-cut times in the face six times during the year. Two 200 backstroke wins came down the stretch against Georgia and Florida.
  • Created eight new career bests times in breakout meet at UT Invite: Placed 2nd at UT Invite in 200 free (1:40.48), 1st in 500 free (4:31.92), 2nd in 100 back (48.82), 1st in 200 back (1:45.85) and 2nd in 400 IM (3:58.92)

SEC RECAP

  • Reached finals in all three of his individual events and earned medals in two relays at his first conference meet
  • Meet highlighted by his performance in the 200 backstroke. Broke Schwenk's 1992 school record in 1:41.26 in the preliminaries and then earned a bronze medal in the evening finals
  • Also reached the A final of the 100 backstroke, taking sixth. He swam a career best 46.80 in the preliminaries.
  • Took 13th in the 500 freestyle, swimming a best 4:21.07 in the finals
  • Helped the 800 freestyle relay team to a silver medal and was part of the bronze medal 400 medley relay team

NCAA RECAP

  • Earned All-America accolades in three events, including first-team honors in the 800 freestyle relay
  • 800 freestyle relay team placed seventh in 6:21.87 to close the second day of NCAAs and helped spark the Vols' strong finish
  • Placed 11th in the 200 backstroke in 1:41.72 on the final evening of the meet
  • Part of the All-American 400 medley relay team that finished 16th

PRIOR TO TENNESSEE
  • Qualified for the 2012 US Olympic Trials in the 200-meter backstroke and has some international competition, having traveled to Osaka, Japan, last year
  • Swam with the Academy Bullets Swim Club, and as a part of Naperville Central High School's swim team, he was an All-American in the 100-yard backstroke and 400 freestyle relay
  • He was team captain his last two years at Naperville
