Lera, Lamp Qualify for 3-Meter Final

Jan. 4, 2014

ATHENS, Ga. -- Redshirt senior Tori Lamp and sophomore Samantha Lera both qualified for the 3-meter springboard finals Saturday at the Georgia Diving Invitational.

In the finals, Lera climbed one spot to take 10th with a six-dive score of 372.20.

Lamp finished eighth in the preliminaries with a total of 288.35. This week is Lamp's first competition since returning from a shoulder injury, so she did not dive in the finals to avoid overwork. She was third on the 1-meter springboard on Friday.

"Tori was a little rusty, but I was pleased that she was able to make the finals," Tennessee diving coach Dave Parrington said. "We didn't want didn't want to overdo it, so we pulled her from the finals. Samantha did a good job after yesterday's competition. She improved one spot in the finals. I was happy with the quality of the competition and how she performed."

Freshman Gaffney Taylor placed 40th in the 3-meter prelims with a score of 209.45.

On the men's side, freshmen Michael Howell and Lee Fullam both competed on the 1-meter springboard. Howell was 24th in 239.90 and Fullam was 29th in 211.75.

"Michael and Lee continue to learn what it takes to compete at this level," Parrington said.

The platform competition is Sunday.
