Junior Lauryn McCalley (Moultrie, Ga.) finished in sixth place in the 3m diving event with a 718.74 mark on Jan. 17 at the 2004 USA World Cup Diving Trials in Huntersville, N.C., at the Huntersville Family Fitness & Aquatics Center. McCalley made up significant spots after closing out the preliminary round in ninth place. Former Lady Vol Jaime Sanger took 11th place by amassing a score of 647.82 throughout the meet. Indiana Diving's Sara Hildebrand (817.71) and Kimiko Soldati (804.60) of the Centralized Training Center claimed the USA Diving Team slots by capturing the top-two spots.
"I am pleased with how Lauryn performed this evening," Diving Coach Dave Parrington said. "She dove against an elite field of seasoned veterans. Lauryn dove well and put together some extremely good dives. She will get better throughout the rest of the season."
McCalley will now rejoin with the rest of the Lady Vols to take on Florida in the Student Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn., on Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. The meet will be the final time the Tennessee seniors will compete in front of a home crowd.
