ATHENS, Ga.-- Sophomore swimmer Tiffany Clay posted two NCAA provisional qualifying marks on Saturday at the Bulldog Invite in Athens, Ga. Thanks to the effort, she will be able to compete at the NCAA Championships March 17-20 in the 100 and 200y breaststroke. She will also swim with the 200y medley relay squad, which posted a very fast "B" marker at the Southeastern Conference Championships.
"I knew that she had the ability to do this," head coach Dan Colella said. "It was unfortunate she got hurt last weekend prior to the breaststroke events, but we knew she could do this today. It's a great thrill and now we are looking forward to focusing the next three weeks on the NCAA Championships.
Clay blazed to times of 1:03.41 and 2:15.96, in the 100 and 200y breaststroke, respectively. Both final markers are career bests. Jacque Fessel (Cincinnati, Ohio), Julia Stowers (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Megan Tomes (Cincinnati, Ohio) all have NCAA automatic qualifying marks, while Christine Magnuson (Tinley Park, Ill.) was a member of that 200y medley relay squad.
The NCAA Championships are set for March 17-20 in West Lafayette, Ind.
