KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee swimming's relay teams scored two top-eight finishes Thursday to wrap up the first day at AT&T Winter National Championships.
The UT men's 200-yard freestyle relay squad started the evening session with a fifth-place finish. After qualifying through the morning preliminaries, the team of Luke Percy, Sam Rairden, Chris Sadsad and Troy Tillman recorded a season-best time of 1 minute, 19.12 seconds.
Tennessee's women also put together a solid performance in the 400 medley relay at the end of the day. Christina Leander, Molly Hannis, Faith Johnson and Lindsay Gendron finished in 3:35.07, also a season best.
Sophomore Amanda Carner was the only UT swimmer to compete in a B final Thursday evening. She finished 16th in the 200 individual medley in 2:01.38. It was a season-best time by nearly four seconds for UT's leading
Junior Troy Tillman broke the 20-second mark for the 1st time in the 50 freestyle for the first time in his collegiate career. He placed 20th in 19.97. Last season, he swam 20 seconds flat during a swim-off at the SEC Championships last spring.
Freshman Luke Percy was 24th in the 50 in 20.24.
Tennessee finished the day with a 10th-place finish in the men's 400 medley relay. Rairden, Renato Prono, Sadsad and Percy had a time of 3:14.49.
