INDIANAPOLIS - Based on her performance on the international stage last year, Tennessee diver Tori Lamp was invited to compete in the 2014 FINA Diving World Series, USA Diving announced Wednesday evening.
Lamp is scheduled to compete on the 10-meter platform at three of the five tour sites: London (April 25-27); Windsor, Canada (May 30-June 1); and Monterrey, Mexico (June 6-8).
Lamp, the redshirt senior from Knoxville, put together a spectacular 2013 season against college, national and global competition.
She was named the CSCAA National Diver of the Year after making all three finals of the NCAA Championships and was voted the SEC Diver of the Year for the second consecutive season. During the summer, she won the platform competition at the U.S. World Championship Trials and followed that by placing 10th at the FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain.
Lamp's performance at the world championships earned her a spot in the FINA Diving World Series.
The United States received invitations in five events for FINA Diving World Series. The first competition is March 14-16 in Beijing, China.
CENTER OF EXCELLENCE
In a second announcement by USA Diving, Tennessee was named a 2014 USA Diving Center of Excellence, an award coach Dave Parrington and the diving program also earned in 2013.
Tennessee's selection as a center of excellence is based on UT's recent track record of top performances and development of world-class divers. In that vein, Lamp officially retained her position on the 2016 Olympic Performance Squad. She was also on the squad in 2013.
