BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Seniors Lauren Solernou and Carl Svagerko were named to the SEC Swimming and Diving Community Service Teams, the conference office announced Friday.
Solernou, an All-American backstroker and two-time NCAA relay champ for Tennessee, has been busy helping the community as well as excelling in the pool.
She has been a volunteer at the UT Medical Center. She also helped at the Rev3 5K Glow Run and the Man Run, a prostate cancer fundraising 5K. She participated in the Breast4Breasts Clinic, with proceeds benefitting the UT Medical Center Cancer Institute. Around the holidays, she sang Christmas carols at a nursing home and worked at a holiday dinner for the underprivileged in Knoxville. She also participated at the Sacred Heart book fair.
Svagerko transferred to Tennessee from Pittsburgh to start his junior season and has been an active community service leader on the men's side.
He assisted at two city running events: The Rev3 5K Glow Run and the Man Run. The Rev3 5K benefitted former UT swimmer Nicole Gross and her sister who were injured in the Boston Marathon bombing.
Like Solernou, Svagerko also articipated in the Breast4Breasts clinic. He was also part of VOLoween, a Halloween activity with youth.
