SEC Swimming Awards Announced

Feb. 28, 2013

The Southeastern Conference announced its postseason swimming and diving awards Thursday, and 15 Vols and Lady Vols earned All-SEC honors.

Tennessee diving took home the biggest conference prizes. Tori Lamp retained her title as SEC Women's Diver of the Year after repeating her gold medal on the platform and winning bronze on the 3-meter springboard. Dave Parrington was named SEC Women's Diving Coach of the Year, the 11th time he has earned the annual award for the men or women.

SEC Championships automatically earned first team All-SEC honors. Six Lady Vols -- three individual champions and the members of the gold medal winning women's 200-yard medley relay team -- were All-SEC: Lauren Solernou (200 MR), Molly Hannis (200 MR), Kelsey Floyd (200 MR), Faith Johnson (50 freestyle, 200 MR), Lindsay Gendron (200 freestyle) and Lamp (platform).

Jodie McGroarty and Caroline Simmons were named second-team All-SEC.

Lera and Johnson were both named to the SEC All-Freshman Team. Johnson set the 18-year-old national age group record in the 50 freestyle (21.90 seconds).

The Lady Vols' 200 medley relay team broke the SEC record in 1:35.08. Hannis briefly held the SEC record and broke the UT school record in the 100 breaststroke in 58.22. Lamp broke her own SEC record in the platform from a year ago (341.90).

For the men, the Vols had seven swimmers named second-team All-SEC: Samuel Rairden, Renato Prono, Oystein Hetland, Ed Walsh, Gustav Aberg Lejdstrom, Tristan Slater and Sean Lehane.

Rairden led the way for the Vols at the meet, winning silver medals in the 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly. Lehane reached the finals of both the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke, taking bronze in the 200.
